Monday 12/16/19 - 3 Days to Go!

This morning, we played SNAKE to practice our multiplication facts as well as apply our probability learning. In French, students worked on more Noel vocabulary by illustrating some phrases and completing "Le mot mystere." Now that all of the classes have completed their inline skating sessions, students were back in the gym for PE! We read Chapter 6 of The Boundless - a very exciting chapter! Students had some time to work on unfinished assignments. In Social, we started posters about the Arctic region. These are meant to highlight what is unique about the region. We will continue them later in the week.

- Report Cards come home on Thursday, December 19
- No School for students on Friday, December 20
- Winter Break is Friday, December 20-Friday, January 3

From now until Winter break, we will be raising money and non-perishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank. The attachment and this link: https://www.calgaryfoodbank.com/resources/ is to support you in talking with your class. There will be a jug in the office for money donations and boxes in the Hawk’s Nest for the non-partible food items. Any donations are due by Thursday December 19, 2019.

Thank-you for your flexibility and enthusiasm as we begin this process of emergency distance learning! As I've mentioned, we are building toward the launch of our Google Classroom on Monday morning. This will be a very important space that will function as our online classroom. This is where you will be able to find important information, your assigned work for each week, and resources necessary to complete that work. When you first log in to the Classroom on Monday (through a link that will arrive in your educbe email that morning), the amount of work there might look overwhelming. I have decided to upload a whole week's worth of work at once, to allow you to work through it at the pace that works best for you. Some of the assignments have been split up by day of the week; this is a suggestion to help you decide what to work on when. Hi Grade 5 Families, Please keep an eye out for an email from me this afternoon outlining some of the next steps for learning adventures. I will also be phoning students over the next couple of days to check in and respond to any questions from the email. You need to know that you are missed at school but we are really excited about what lies ahead for us, and we will be sharing details with you through this coming week. I hope all of you have had a wonderful Spring Break! I have been using some of this time to catch up on my pile of books that I haven't had a chance to read. I hope each of you has got to spend some time doing some of your favourite activities!
