Thursday 12/19/19 - Last School Day of the Decade!

This morning we played another game of Snake, worked on multiplication colour-by-number pages, and went on Prodigy (math games online). In French, students had time to work on their Noel picture. We read more of Chapter 7 of The Boundless. This afternoon, we had more carolling in the gym and then watched a movie for our Positive Choices reward #5. Report Cards were sent home today. Please sign and return the envelope only (report card is for your records) in January. Thank you to all students and families for the very generous cards, gifts and good wishes. I would like to wish you all a safe and restful Winter Break and Happy Holidays! I look forward to seeing you all in the new year! Reminder: There is no school for students tomorrow. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 7 , 2020. Ski/Snowboard forms are due January 30.

Wednesday 12/18/19 - 1 day to go!

This morning, we started with DEAR and carolling in the gym. We worked on Sudoku in Math. Students had time to work on their storyboards and we started Chapter 7 of The Boundless. This afternoon, students had a bit of time to work on unfinished work and then time to work on their Arctic region posters. We ended the day with festive mad libs! Tomorrow we will have our Positive Choices Reward #5 - movie/snacks/pj/stuffies in the afternoon. Science Fair Tri-Folds have arrived! Please make arrangements to get these home as they are rather large to carry and not allowed on the bus. Monday 12/16/19 - 3 Days to Go!

This morning, we played SNAKE to practice our multiplication facts as well as apply our probability learning. In French, students worked on more Noel vocabulary by illustrating some phrases and completing "Le mot mystere." Now that all of the classes have completed their inline skating sessions, students were back in the gym for PE! We read Chapter 6 of The Boundless - a very exciting chapter! Students had some time to work on unfinished assignments. In Social, we started posters about the Arctic region. These are meant to highlight what is unique about the region. We will continue them later in the week. Today we started with Circle and work on work time. In Math, students worked on probability through Rock, Paper, Scissors and coin flipping. We finished Chapter 5 of The Boundless and students had time to work on their storyboards. We ended the day with our Grade 2 Buddies, solving the mystery of Elf on a Shelf and writing riddles about where the elf will go next. This morning we had a fabulous presentation on Acids, Bases, and pH! Students got to mix household chemicals to observe colour-changing reactions. After that, they worked as a group to identify what chemicals were used with the help of a universal indicator chart. Students worked through a check in to decide on and compare probability of different events. They also had their last (for now) composer session in Music. In Social, they worked more on their Arctic notes. In Art, we continued our Monet-inspired Birch Trees by adding snow and shadows. They are looking extremely beautiful! Students had their Positive Choice reward time with the computers and we ended the day with our novel. We started the day comparing probability by creating and using spinners! In French, we reviewed our Noel vocabulary and students worked on a word search. In Social, we continued making jot notes on the Arctic Region. This afternoon, students had time to work on unfinished work. In Science, we discussed physical and chemical reactions. Students also got to start their salt crystals. Anyone who didn't get to that today will start theirs tomorrow! We will have our Positive Choices reward tomorrow! In Science, we reviewed last week's solubility experiment. In Math, we played 4 corners to deepen our understanding of probability terms: impossible, possible but unlikely, possible and likely, and certain. In French, we began our Noel unit. This afternoon, students had time to finish their Cordillera brochures and other work. We read Chapter 4 of our novel, The Boundless. We started our morning with Circle and Compliment Circle. In Math, we began our new unit: Probability. Students are using words such as "impossible," "possible," "likely," "unlikely," and "certain" to describe events. We read the end of Chapter 3 in The Boundless today and students had time to work on their storyboard picture and summary. After lunch, we started working on jot notes for the Arctic region of Canada. We also had our second session of inline skating - our third and final is tomorrow! Thursday 12/5/19

This morning, students worked on a check-in about sentence fragments. We had the second half of our CPAWS presentation about water and the importance of wetlands. After recess, students worked on their Patterns test in Math. This afternoon, students had time to finish their Cordillera brochures. We also had our first Inline Skating session. We'll have the next two on Monday and Tuesday next week. Reminder: There is no school for students tomorrow! This morning, students had time to review for their Pattern test tomorrow . The study guide and answer key are posted below. We had our French quiz today and students generally did very well! The composer from Calgary Opera was in today as well. This afternoon in Science, we talked about the properties of water and solubility. Tomorrow is our first day of inline skating!! This morning, students worked through more pattern practice and received a study guide for Thursday's test. We'll work on review in class tomorrow. In French, they had time to finish their schedule (un horaire) and study for tomorrow's quiz. Everything on the quiz is on the study guide :) They also had time to work on their Cordillera brochures. This afternoon, we had two presentations: CPAWS (Water Rangers) and a Bullying presentation from our School Resource Officer. This morning, students started with some catch-up time and quiet reading. In Math, students reviewed last week's check-in and worked together on some new practice pattern questions. We will have our test on Thursday, covering only the patterns concepts they've already learned. In Science, we reviewed separation methods and had a very cool demo with "rainbow layers." In French, we started working on "un horaire" (schedule), which we will continue next class. We will also review for the quiz tomorrow. We rearranged our desks for a "choose your own adventure" seating plan for December and spent a bit more time decorating our classroom for the holidays.
