Hello 5MW Families, I hope you've had a good first week of remote learning in our Google Classroom. I would like to thank you all for your hard work, patience and support! Just a reminder: - Tomorrow is a Stat Holiday, so there is no new work being posted or expectation for students to be working. However, the week's work is still up and available for those who choose to work on it tomorrow. - Monday is a Professional Learning Day for the teachers. We will be attending online/virtual PD to enrich our understanding of this new learning environment. - Tuesday will be the first day of the school week for students. New templates will be sent out and posted in the Classroom, along with the week's assignments. I wish you all a safe and happy long weekend!

Thank-you for your flexibility and enthusiasm as we begin this process of emergency distance learning! As I've mentioned, we are building toward the launch of our Google Classroom on Monday morning. This will be a very important space that will function as our online classroom. This is where you will be able to find important information, your assigned work for each week, and resources necessary to complete that work. When you first log in to the Classroom on Monday (through a link that will arrive in your educbe email that morning), the amount of work there might look overwhelming. I have decided to upload a whole week's worth of work at once, to allow you to work through it at the pace that works best for you. Some of the assignments have been split up by day of the week; this is a suggestion to help you decide what to work on when. However, it is ultimately up to you and your family how you would like to progress through. Feel free to do more than the one day's wort...

Thanks to all who were able to join our Google Meet. Going forward, we will be using Google Classroom, email and the blog for learning and communication. I will be sending out emails to students with the Google Classroom invite as soon as we are allowed to. This will be done by Monday morning at the latest. Thanks for your support and patience as we adjust to this new way of learning!

Hello 5MW Families, Please find attached Google Meet and Google Classroom here , an informational letter regarding Google Classroom & Meet information. We have planned our first 5MW class Google Meet for Thursday, April 2 at 2:30pm.  If this changes, I will email and post on the classroom blog ASAP.  I am excited to try this new platform out with our class! For those of you I spoke with yesterday, it was great to connect! I will be making more calls today in hopes of reaching everyone.

If you're looking for ways to keep learning at home before we start our formal assignments on Monday, here are some suggestions for you: Practice your basic facts! (Don't forget that we still have that  great list of multiplication and division fact online games ! Or, if you prefer something that doesn't involve a screen,  this link has some great hands-on ways to practice multiplication facts  too!) Play  Prodigy ! I've put in some 3-digit by 1-digit division questions for you to review. Read!!!! And talk or write about what you're reading!!! Keep a journal ! We are living through a future history lesson right now! :) Try some cooking or baking, which involves reading and following instructions (Language Arts) and measurements (Math). Hi Grade 5 Families, Please keep an eye out for an email from me this afternoon outlining some of the next steps for learning adventures. I will also be phoning students over the next couple of days to check in and respond to any questions from the email. You need to know that you are missed at school but we are really excited about what lies ahead for us, and we will be sharing details with you through this coming week. I hope all of you have had a wonderful Spring Break! I have been using some of this time to catch up on my pile of books that I haven't had a chance to read. I hope each of you has got to spend some time doing some of your favourite activities! 

I just wanted to send a note to all students and families during this very unprecedented time. I hope you are all feeling well and finding ways to enjoy some down time together. I really miss you all and it was so strange going into an empty classroom. Next week will still be Spring Break as planned, so please relax and enjoy! If you do desire some school-type activities, you can reference my previous blog post for some ideas and the CBE has put out a link for Learning at Home, which can be found here . I've seen many suggestions online and through social media about enjoying some time together. I think these are great ideas and I would encourage you to find joy in each day. If you want to do some learning at home prior to Spring Break, you can do any of the following! This is NOT required, but simply an option to help fill some unexpected days at home. Language Arts: - Read, complete a reading response in writing by making a personal connection or prediction (feel free to share with me at mlwilliamson@educbe.ca). - Read a non fiction book and prepare a slideshow about the facts you learned - Read two books by an author you like.  Do some research about the author and make a google doc about the author ( feel free to share with me at mlwilliamson@educbe.ca ). Mathematics: - practice your multiplication and division basic facts - go onto Math Prodigy (you can use your Google username and password) - practice perimeter and area around your house (measure the rooms yourself) - make arrays with various items in your house - so a 2D and 3D object hunt though out your house and in your yard - make some 2D objects with natural materials you find in your yar...

This morning we began with DEAR and Circle, discussing both compliments and concerns from the week. Students had a bit of time for unfinished work and then an hour to work on their Science research/poster. These will be presented on Monday. This morning in Math, we started working on estimating quotients. Students were reminded about front-end rounding. We will continue practicing this skill. Students also completed a reflection on their Glenbow trip yesterday (questions shown below). In LA, we finished sharing our group paragraphs and began learning about how to write dialogue. We worked on how to punctuate <"Let's go to the mall," John suggested. > This afternoon, our Grade 2 buddies shared their fantastic boats and told us about their research process. We also read more of our novel. To end the day, students had more time to research their chosen technology that includes an electromagnet and started making their posters.  Tomorrow is "Dress as your favourite book character" day!
