Thursday 3/5/20

In Math, students wrote their division check-in. Most students now seem to have a division strategy that is working for them, but for those who don't, this would be a good thing to work on at home (that we will also spend some more time on at school). Reading and understanding word problems also continues to be an area that students will practice and be supported in. In French, we learned the verb Avoir (to have), as well as some animal body parts (link is here). In LA, students started with another writing prompt: "Today, I learned I could fly." They compared the paragraphs they'd found in texts from home that show a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence.

This afternoon, students had time to work on unfinished work. We discussed our upcoming second Snack & Chat. Students are once again asked to select a book they have fully read and prepare a short, informal talk about the text. The linked document has more information on what specifically should be included in their presentation. Our second Snack & Chat will be on Thursday, March 19. Students are encouraged to write down what they would like to share, and to ensure that they have a copy of the book with them with a section bookmarked to read out loud. Students are welcome to sign their book out of the learning commons if they do not own a copy. As part of this Snack & Chat introduction, Ms. Williamson and I each did our own short presentation about a book that we have enjoyed. If you were intrigued by either of those books, we talked about Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery and Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.

In Science, students had time to finish their electromagnet experiment from yesterday and begin researching more about electromagnets and how we use them in our daily lives. We will continue this next week.

Tomorrow is our Positive Choices reward. Students voted for a movie, so if you would like to bring in a G rated/appropriate movie, we will vote on our choice tomorrow.
