Monday 10/7/19
Today was our first lockdown drill. Students were reminded of the importance of being quiet and still during these situations.
In Health, we continued our work around mental health, focusing on what mental health actually is, strategies we can use for ourselves, and ways we can support one another. In Language Arts, we read more of because of mr. terupt and had some good discussion about why the word "retarded" is offensive and inappropriate. Students handled this tricky topic with maturity and thoughtfulness. In Social Studies we played a fun snowball mystery identity game, where each student wrote down three facts about themselves on a piece of paper, crumpled up and tossed their paper around the room, picked up a random "snowball," and then guessed to whom the facts were referring. We followed this game with a discussion about identity - what it is, where it comes from, and why it's important. In Art we had some time to finish up work we had previously begun: representations of a wetland scene in watercolour crayon, a visual journal page to communicate our understanding of the novel The Maze of Bones, and use of line and pattern in zentangle art.
Due Dates:
- Maps of Canada due Thursday, October 10
Overdue Work:
- Wetland Notetaker
- Wetlands Questions
- Personality Swirl
- Tissue Paper Art
- Place Value Practice
- September Quote
Reminders:
- PE Leadership application forms due Wednesday (for interested students)
- Thanksgiving Assembly is on Thursday at 9:30
- No school on Friday for students
- No school on Monday
- Literacy Night on Thursday, October 17
