Grade 5 - Ms. Williamson

Today we began to work on rounding, practicing rounding to different place values. We reviewed pronunciation for our French presentations, which will (finally!) be presented on Wednesday. We also started on a Maze of Bones visual journal page, to show understanding of our novel. This afternoon, we read The Orange Shirt Story and discussed the significance of this day. Students also began reflecting in their notebooks and we will continue our conversation tomorrow. Despite the chilly conditions, we had a great Muffin Breakfast and Terry Fox Run! Our class completed 91 laps - way to go! It was also very inspiring to hear Dr. Kelly Guggisberg speak about her experiences and research with cancer, both as a survivor and pathologist. Students had more time to research their wetland plants and animals. We also worked some more on the Guinness Records in Math and finished our novel. Reminder: Orange Shirt Day is on Monday! We had an awesome day at the Heritage Park Wetlands! We created our own invertebrates and observed wetland wildlife down by the water. Today we continued working with place value and different ways to represent number through "Roll-A-Number." In Science, we finished our Bill Nye video and jot notes (you can re-watch the video here ). We also had some time with Valmai, a Librettist from the Calgary Opera, to brainstorm ideas for our upcoming opera. We are still in need of 1-2 more volunteers for our field trip on Thursday!
